Issue #15

Hi Carvers!!

This issue of Carving Magazine is full of interesting info! Many of you have requested more step-by-step projects, so we found some great ones for you. This issue features carving a Pensive Ponderer caricature, a covered bridge relief project, an interesting toad house, and a project to help you gain understanding of wood grain—carving a donut. For those of you who want to try carving in stone, we found a fun project– carving a swan from alabaster. This issue also features part two of Fireplace Mantel Carving in “Ask Joe.” This part covers the intriguing art of designing the mantel. The next issue of Carving Magazine will show the third and final part of carving the mantel.

We found some very interesting carvers to feature! Sigi Weis is a fantastic carver and inventor, and Edee Carlson was an intriguing folk artist. Both are profiled here. And not only does David Bruce Johnson share some important carving and safety information, but he also has some beautiful carvings in his photo gallery.

We also answer some of those basic questions concerning how to hold your carvings and how to use a bench screw.

Our online Readers' Forum and Live Chat are a lot of fun! Be sure to log on and read interesting information about carving and chat LIVE with other woodcarvers.

Thanks again for reading Carving Magazine!!

Have an awesome day!!
