A Chip off the old block

Postby Breezly on Tue Mar 09, 2010 9:42 am

HI everybody my real name is Mike . My father was a lifetime carver somedays i would just sit as a child and admire his skills with his knifes and chisels . He was one of those guys that always had a pocket knife in his pocket . I think that was the first thing he gave to me and of course he wanted a penny for it for luck so i wouldnt cut myself. So i started whittlin when i was young making my own guns out of wood and anything else i could make. I never took a real interest in carving right away I think around my late twenties . My dad was getting older and he was slowing down so he gave me some chisels his original Millers Falls set and his Foredom he never really liked the power thing . The rest is history been carving on and off since . The last four years have been tough I have been diagnosed with RA every joint in my body was swollen and in pain but with agood doctor and the right meds I'm in remission and back to my favourite hobby .I spent this past winter in FL and went to 3 shows held by carving clubs and got the bug again . I even joined one of them the Indian River Carving Club . It' s been great . Thats my story .
